Step 1: Start with the basic
When you are low on time, start with those areas that are essential and the place where you are going to spend most of the time. It is never essential that you decor every single room, however the place where you and your guests are going to spend the most of your Christmas. Places such as:
Living Room: This is the heart of the house and also the place where you would spend the most of your day. Start by having a Christmas tree and decor it with lights, bells and stars and Santa with his reindeers all over the Christmas Tree.
Dining Area: This is a place where you will spend the most valuable time with your family, start by decorating the table with plates and glasses that are Christmas themed and also have a candle that can illuminate the place.
Entryway: This is the first place from where your guests will have a glance of your home, so decorate it in a manner that your guests feel welcomed and invited. This is because the first impression matters.
Also add decorative pillows, a cozy throw blanket and rugs that can also make up the difference. The goal should be to work smarter, not harder.
Step 2: Use what you already have
Before you rush to the store and start purchasing the décor items that may be expensive due to the festivities and not of much use once the Christmas is over. Look around your house and you might find something that might surprise you. Things like:
String Lights: You might have string lights lying around that you might have purchased, wrap them around the house and cover all the areas in beautiful light.
Mason jars: If you have a collection of mason jars, fill them with lights, pine cones or even candy canes making it an instant centerpiece.
Blankets and pillows: Have blankets and pillows of red and green colors to match the festive vibes.
Step 3: Go big with small touches
When you are tight on time small touches can have a very big impact, here is how:
Wreaths: Hang these on the front door and in any room that you think might be most crowded, this is a simple yet efficient way to add instant holiday cheer.
Candles: Have some of the scented and unscented candles around the house, think of cinnamon or vanilla.
Red Ribbon: Hang them on the chairs and around places to make the area feel festive.
Step 4: Focus on Color
You should focus on the color combination that screams Christmas and it can be done by adding the right scheme of colors.
Red and green: These are the basic colors that are used at the time of Christmas and give a sophisticated look to the space.
Gold and silver: This is yet another color combination that is used up in decor and ends up quite beautiful.
White for snow effect: Spray out the white foam on flowers and plants to have a snowy effect.
Step 5: Decorate Your Tree Like a Pro
If you have time for just one thing, let it be your Christmas tree. Here’s a quick, foolproof way to decorate your tree like an expert:
Start with the lights: Wrap them from the base to the top.
Add garlands: Use beads, ribbons, or tinsel.
Place the ornaments: Start with the largest ones and fill in the gaps with smaller ones.
Top it off: A star or an angel is a classic choice, however, feel free to be creative as it is your Christmas tree and your festival !
Last year, I used leftover ribbons to tie little bows on my tree branches. It took about 15 minutes, however, it looked so chic and festive. It turned out to be a good and beautiful decor.
